Forgiveness with Pastor Gene Lingerfelt

One of the most important and challenging aspects of the Bible is forgiveness. In your life, it’s important that you not only forgive others but also yourself.
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” -Colossians 3:13
At Faith Christian Center we are constantly focusing on living in light of the work that Jesus did on our behalf on the cross. The Bible offers a lot of Biblical guidance on forgiveness and just how important it is to forgive others as we all have been forgiven by Christ.
With the grace and mercy that Christ has shown to us, we are all able to start new with God.  When we repent of our sins, we are given the full assurance of Christ’s forgiveness because His death and His resurrection have covered all of our sins. Our sins are separated from us as far as the east is from the west, and God remembers them no more. (Psalm 103:12; Hebrews 8:12)
“Now that we have a new beginning, Jesus Christ commands that we also will learn to forgive others and extend the grace that He has shown us,” explained Pastor Gene Lingerfelt. Learning to forgive others can be one of the toughest challenges in life, but through the power of Christ, all things are possible.  It may seem hard to forgive and walk in love, but with the help of God, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.”
The pain that we experience can cause real bitterness, and living with this without forgiveness can poison your life and take away from God’s true plan for your life while on earth.  Studies show that a failure to walk in love, unkindness, bitterness, anger, resentment, and unforgiveness all negatively impact a person’s physical health. When people fail to walk in love and forgive, they not only pay a physical price; they also pay a spiritual price.  When we forgive others, we are not condoning their behavior, rather we are releasing them to God and letting go of the pain that would otherwise hold us back.

Ephesians 4:31-32

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” –
At Faith Christian Center, Pastor Gene Lingerfelt often reminds the congregation that although forgiving someone that has wronged you can sometimes seem impossible, we can do all things with the help of God.  We also have the ultimate example of forgiveness–Jesus Christ. Even though He was innocent, when He was put to death by wicked men, He prayed, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Letting go of the pain you have experienced because of what others have done and forgiving them and moving on will free you to experience the abundant life God has for you. Although forgiveness can be incredibly difficult, with the help of God and a community of other believers, all things are possible.
Pastor Gene Lingerfelt and Faith Christian Center encourage you to spend time studying God’s promises and His guidance in order to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
