Shaun McKay served as the President of Suffolk County Community College for 9 years since February of 2010. He recently discussed the honor he had of receiving the Innovation of The Year Award in 2016.
“It was really quite an honor to represent Suffolk County on a national scale.” McKay said, “Being recognized for my contributions to the education system was just incredible.”
The League for Innovation in the Community College is an international nonprofit organization founded to promote innovation in the community college environment. The Innovation of the Year Awards were established over 35 years ago as a way to recognize significant innovations at colleges, with the innovations reflecting substantial achievements and continuous improvement.
Dr. McKay received the award for promoting a culture of sustainability within Suffolk County Community College.
“I didn’t just do it for the recognition. Part of the job is to see continuing innovation and success within the students and staff,” McKay asserted.
Shaun McKay served with Suffolk County Community College from 2005 to 2019, first as a Campus Executive Dean until 2009 before being named as the sixth president of the college.
