How Do I Start Photography?

Photography is a beautiful way to capture moments in time that you will treasure forever. It can be simple or complex–but starting does not have to be complicated. Here are some tips on getting started in photography.

Camera equipment can be expensive, but starting with the most current and high-end gear on the market is not necessary. A point-and-shoot camera will do just fine to start. As your skills progress and you understand more about what you want to do with photography, then you can upgrade your equipment.
The most important thing is getting out there and taking photos! Start by practicing at home, or go outside and explore your surroundings. Take photos of flowers, trees, animals, people–anything that catches your eye. Once you start taking photos, you will develop your style. And that’s what makes photography so special- it reflects YOU.
As you take more photographs, you will better understand what settings work best in different situations. For example, you may find that you like to take landscape shots with a low aperture setting to capture as much detail as possible (like the trees in this photo). But for portraits, you may prefer a higher aperture to create a shallow depth of field and make your subject stand out against a blurry background.
There are endless possibilities in photography–so experiment and have fun! The best way to learn is by doing. And the more you practice, the better your photographs will become.

We hope these tips helped get you started in photography! Remember, the best way to learn is by doing–so get out there and start snapping away! We’re confident you’ll develop into an amazing photographer with time and practice.
