Pastor Gene Lingerfelt on the Importance of Giving
The Holiday season is fully upon us which means family gatherings, time off work, travel, and shopping. In the midst of this flurry of activity, we must never forget that Jesus is the reason for the season.
We enjoy every blessing because of what Jesus did on our behalf more than 2,000 years ago.
At Faith Christian Center, Pastor Gene Lingerfelt reminds us that in the midst of this busy season, we must pause and remember what Christmas is all about. We can celebrate Christmas because God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son. (John 3:16) And in remembering this and celebrating Christmas, we must remind ourselves that this is a season for giving. God loved and so He gave. We too should demonstrate our love by giving. As Pastor Gene Lingerfelt says often, “We are blessed to be a blessing!”
As you focus on the end of the year and all your preparations for time with family, take time to reflect on the goodness of God and all of His blessings in your life. Remember and thank God for all that He has done for you, your loved ones and your family.
We must never forget to “Give Thanks!”
And one way we “Give thanks,” demonstrating that we have an attitude of gratitude is by being a blessing to others. If you will ask the Lord to show you ways in which you can be a blessing and encouragement to others, He will. When He does, all you have to do is LISTEN to His still, small voice and then OBEY. LISTEN and OBEY. It truly is that simple. And the good news is when we obey and give, blessing others, God always replaces and multiplies whatever we give. This is why we can give joyfully with gratitude…it’s because we know we’ll be INCREASED, not diminished.
Look for ways to be a blessing and never forget that when we are a blessing to the least of these, we are being a blessing to Jesus Himself. (Matthew 25:40) During the Christmas season, while there are many who are so blessed, there are also many who face being alone or are confronting all kinds of challenges. This is why we must listen to the voice of God and why we should be looking for a way to be a blessing to others. We are the hands and feet of Jesus in a lost and hurting world.
During this holiday season, point people to God with your actions! Look for ways to be a blessing! Let’s shine like stars, being the light of the world, not just talking about God’s goodness but by demonstrating the goodness and love of God.
