Pastor Gene Lingerfelt Teaches on Discipleship

Pastor Gene Lingerfelt

Throughout many years in ministry, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt continues to teach on the importance of discipleship and how it influences your walk with Jesus.

The word “doulos” translated from Greek means “bondservant,” and that’s exactly what we all are as followers of Jesus.  It’s important to understand how to follow Jesus and how to live the Christian life.

“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God.” -Romans 1:1

Jesus calls each of His followers to be a disciple, following His commandments.  At Faith Christian Center, Dr. Gene Lingerfelt encourages each member of the church to become a doer of God’s Word, obeying the commands of God, as they live the Christian life.

Discipleship starts with following Christ and pursuing Him in your everyday life. Dr. Gene Lingerfelt encourages each member of the church to pursue discipleship in three unique ways: serving, community, and daily fellowship with the Lord..

Through serving, we enact the commands of Jesus, doing unto others as we would have them do unto us.

“But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind.” -Luke 14:13

Jesus also taught that whatever we do for “the least of these” we do for Jesus Himself. (Matt. 25:31-46)

Serving others enables you to be a blessing.  As Christians, we are to share Christ and the goodness and love of God in everything we do.

By building a Christ-like Community, we do two things: we honor God, and we model the Kingdom of God in our every day lives.  This is our witness to a lost and dying world, and this is how we live as salt and light. At Faith Christian Center, our goal is to exalt Christ and His Word.  As we grow and model our community after Him, we make this goal a daily reality. We practice Christian community through services, classes, and discipleship groups.  This enables members of the congregation to dig deeper into God’s Word.

When we ask we receive.  When we seek we find. When we knock, the door is opened unto us.  When you draw closer to God, He draws closer to you. This is why having a daily devotional time in your life is so important.  Pastor Gene Lingerfelt encourages each member of His congregation to have a daily devotional time and to make it a goal to spend one hour each day with the Lord.  If you will do that, you will draw closer to the Lord and you will more clearly hear His voice in your everyday life.
