Rob Thomson is the highly successful owner of Waterfront Properties and Club Communities, headquartered in Jupiter, Florida. More than a decade ago, the Waterfront Properties boss founded a nonprofit organization intended to make life happier for disadvantaged local children. Since then, both the business and organization have grown significantly.
“Waterfront Properties and Club Communities now have additional offices in Palm Beach, North Palm Beach, Stuart, and Delray Beach,” reveals Robert Thomson, “in addition to our original base in Jupiter.”
Thomson quickly turns to focus back on his nonprofit. Founded in 2004, Charities for Children provides holiday gifts and other support to disadvantaged children in and around Florida’s Palm Beach and Martin counties. “After years of supporting various children’s causes, I decided to create my own nonprofit organization to help make children’s lives happier,” Robert Thomson of Waterfront Properties explains.
Each year since, Thomson and Charities for Children have donated tens of thousands of toys, primarily through holiday drives at local schools, churches, and social service agencies. “We also serve as a safety net for local children’s causes in need of funding,” he adds.
Charities for Children has, in recent years, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations for causes including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Head Start, and the American Cancer Society, as well as countless local schools.
“I have a real zeal for supporting children and schools,” explains Robert Thomson, “particularly as I personally struggled as a child with attention deficit disorder and dyslexia.”
Rob Thomson and Charities for Children have also committed to the delivery of thousands of Easter baskets to a local home for abused and neglected children in West Palm Beach each year.
“Life’s been great to me in recent years,” reveals the Waterfront Properties owner, “though as a kid, my family didn’t have much, so I’m committed to giving back to the community now that I’m in a position to do so.”
Several years ago, Robert Thomson of Waterfront Properties also donated 275 new bikes to a toy drive for the New Macedonia Baptist Church in Riviera Beach. “I hope that my efforts continue to improve the lives of others,” says the Charities for Children founder, “and inspire other people to get into the spirit of giving.”
“I’ve always said,” he adds, wrapping up, “that, when I die, I don’t want my tombstone to read, ‘Here lies a guy who sold a lot of big houses and kept the money all to himself.'”
