Real estate mogul Robert Thomson reflects on his most successful 12 months to date following three decades at the peak of South Florida’s luxury property market.

Last year marked Waterfront Properties owner Robert Thomson’s best ever 12 months of sales in his already highly successful, 30-year career, with the real estate mogul responsible for selling almost $200 million worth of property in South Florida. Now with over $2 billion in lifetime sales, Thomson looks back on last year’s incredible success and offers an insight into business at Waterfront Properties.

“It’s quite true,” says Thomson, “that 2018 was an incredible year for myself and the team at Waterfront Properties.”

Success is nothing new for Robert Thomson, however. For example, no single real estate agent has ever reached one billion dollars in sales faster than the Waterfront Properties owner, making him the youngest ever to be inducted into Luxury Real Estate’s Billionaires Club. What’s even more impressive, perhaps, is that Thomson hit that mark around a decade ago now.

With offices across South Florida, from Stuart to Delray, much of Waterfront Properties’ success, says Thomson, comes from the firm’s continual evolution. “We invested heavily in the internet, very early on,” he reveals, “back when most brokerages operated exclusively on the basis that sales come down purely to ‘who you know.'”

However, with nine out of every ten real estate sales today starting as an internet search, Thomson’s competition is now playing catch-up, and Waterfront Properties is a moving target. “What’s more, complacency isn’t in our DNA as a company,” he suggests, “and we continue to invest in training and technology – more heavily, in fact, over the last three years than ever before.”

It’s this approach to innovation, training, and a refusal to become complacent which saw Thomson enjoy his most successful 12 months ever during 2018. “At Waterfront Properties, our team works exceptionally hard behind the scenes to ensure that our sellers’ homes are sold,” he reveals.

“Success has always been about ‘us,’ as a company,” adds the real estate mogul, wrapping up, “and I love it when our agents say that they feel like a part of the family.”
