As a retired Navy SEAL officer, Samuel Lehrer consistently makes efforts to improve the lives of his fellow retired veterans in whatever capacity he can. Each year, he participates in an annual golf tournament in South Florida whose proceeds are donated to retired veterans or else are used to improve and keep up the local Navy SEAL museum.
Samuel Lehrer, a resident of Miami, Florida, has spent much of his free time volunteering with outreach programs and participating in fundraisers to help underprivileged people. He and his family are volunteers and supporters of the Island Time Music Festival and Fishing Tournament in Isla Mujeres each year, which funds the only schoolhouse on the island dedicated to educating special needs children. In addition, Lehrer also supports a bi-annual golf tournament in South Florida that aims to raise funds for military retirees and monetary support for the local SEAL museum.
The golfing tournament is an opportunity to raise money to support the men and women of his own military division and uphold their legacy for years to come. The tournament takes place in Jupiter, Florida, and gives participants the chance to improve the lives of one of the most respected branches of the armed forces. Through their efforts, volunteers and players make sure the public is educated on the Navy’s legacy through the local museum.
“The golf tournament in Jupiter is a unique opportunity to help out the men and women of
the Navy who dedicated their lives to protect this country,” says Samuel Lehrer. “And
participants get to have fun with like-minded individuals along the way as well as play one of the
most beautiful golf courses in the state.”
In the past, the tournament has been held at the Admirals Cove golf course in Jupiter, which is an idyllic spot near the water for people to gather and compete. All money raised through the tournament are used to help support Navy SEALs in a couple of ways: the money gives immediate aid to retired and ex-Navy SEALs, which help them live more comfortable lives in their retirement; secondly, funds are donated to the nearby National Navy SEAL Museum to upkeep and improve programs and exhibits telling the story of the Navy from inception to today.
Every other year, competitors meet in Florida for a full weekend of golfing, mingling, and celebrating while supporting a noble cause. The festivities begin with an aerial display of SEALs parachuting from a black hawk helicopter onto the 18th hole of the course, which marks the start of the competition.
“Giving back to the communities that have supported us is really important to me and my family,” says Samuel Lehrer. “By participating in the Navy SEAL bi-annual golf tournament, we
can raise money for the courageous fighters who defended our country and have fallen into a
place where they truly need our help.”
