Air Force

Army

Marine Corps
The U.S. Marine Corps is a branch of the U.S. armed forces that the Continental Congress founded in 1775. It was initially intended to serve as a landing force for the U.S. Navy but later became a separate service. The primary focus of the Marines has always been amphibious operations, although it has expanded to include ground combat and air power. The Marine Corps also relies on the Navy for logistical support and has its air power. Although the Navy provides medical and administrative support to the Marine Corps, there are no enlisted medics. The Marines have a rich history of overseas operations. In October 1990, the U.S. military deployed 24 infantry battalions and 40 helicopter squadrons to the Persian Gulf to support the U.S. government’s attempt to restore democracy there. In the years following, Marines participated in counter-drug efforts, fought wildfires in western countries, and assisted in hurricane relief operations.
Coast Guard
One of the most recognizable features of the Coast Guard is its unique mission: to protect the maritime environment, enforce maritime law, and conduct search and rescue operations. The Coast Guard also protects our nation’s coastline by patrolling the seas and preventing illegal immigration and the transport of drugs. When war is declared, the Coast Guard is under the jurisdiction of the Navy. During peacetime, however, the Coast Guard’s mission is to protect U.S. territory.
Joining the Coast Guard is simple. Like any other branch, there are requirements. You must meet minimum U.S. citizenship and residency requirements and take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. Once you’ve passed these exams, you’ll be sent to a nearby Military Entrance Processing Center. You’ll be interviewed by recruiters and undergo pre-screening to determine your fitness for the job.
Space Force
According to a new Pentagon proposal, the U.S. Space Force will be a separate combatant command with an independent secretary. As one of the seven branches, the Space Force is an important tool to protect America in space. It would be responsible for maintaining orbiting spacecraft and establishing communications with Earth. It would also research astronomical terminology and satellite technology. Although its limited mission, the Space Force will provide valuable services for our nation.
While it is smaller than the other branches, the Space Force will have a seat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff and will be included in the National Military Strategy formulation. This document sets out the strategic goals of the uniformed military. It is an interesting addition to the military structure. However, it does have several problems. Its leadership and command structure are insufficient to support such a mission.
